Studio 2 · The volume

The volume - the LED stage that becomes any environment.

Shoot any environment in-camera on our LED wall - a high-resolution LED volume with real-time 3D environments, camera tracking and motion control, all working as one, under one roof in Aalborg, Denmark.

The technology

Everything the volume needs to feel real.

The pieces work as one system - the wall, the tracking and the render engine talking to each other frame by frame.

The wall

A high-resolution LED stage that wraps the set in photoreal, moving light - your background and your key light in one.

Tracking

Real-time camera tracking

The environment shifts with your lens, so parallax and perspective stay honest.

Motion control

Repeatable moves

Programmed camera moves you can run again, take after take.

Real-time 3D

Rendered environments

Photoreal environments built and lit in a real-time engine - changed on the fly.

In-camera

Final pixels on set

Reflections, spill and light captured live - less to fix in post.

The LED stage · technical specifications

Under the hood of the volume

Great virtual production starts with the hardware. Our LED volume is built on film-grade panels, an industry-standard processor and two real-time playback engines - so the wall stays sharp, colour-accurate and locked to the camera.

LED panels

AOTO RM1.9

Fine-pitch LED built specifically for film and XR. A 1.9 mm pitch stays sharp on camera even in close-up, while a very high refresh rate and low scan keep the image clean and flicker-free at high shutter speeds - with deep, wide-gamut colour.

Processing

Brompton SX40 + R2+

The industry-standard LED processor drives the wall with precise, calibrated colour. Full 4K at 60 Hz in 12-bit colour with automatic HDR, plus high-frame-rate playback via R2+ receiver cards. Signal runs to the wall over fibre using Brompton DX distribution units - clean, low-latency feeds across the whole stage.

Playback engines

Unreal Engine

Real-time 3D

Epic Games' real-time 3D engine renders the virtual environment live and paints it across the volume with nDisplay. Its in-camera VFX (ICVFX) toolset ties the render to the camera - the inner frustum stays perspective-correct as you move.

  • nDisplay multi-display rendering across the wall
  • ICVFX inner/outer frustum, camera-tracked
  • Final-pixel results, captured in camera
  • Colour-managed pipeline (OpenColorIO)

Assimilate Live FX

Playback & compositing

A real-time playback and compositing media server made for LED volumes. It drives the wall and the stage lighting together, and connects straight to Unreal Engine - playing 2D and 2.5D content at high resolution from a single GPU.

  • Real-time LED playback & live compositing
  • Image-based lighting & virtual set extensions
  • Projection mapping & camera-tracking support
  • Integrates with Unreal Engine

Indicative configuration - exact panel count, resolution and frame-rate ceiling depend on the build. Full technical spec sheet available on request.
